Each link negotiates the highest speed supported by both ends. Plugging a 1Gbps computer into this 2.5Gbps switch still leaves that computer’s link at 1Gbps.
@techbargains Port mirroring lets you copy a port’s traffic to another port for monitoring. It’s a useful extra if you troubleshoot with a packet capture tool, beyond simply adding more Ethernet sockets.
The management interface includes a cable test for troubleshooting wiring problems. That’s useful when an Ethernet run is dropping out and you want to check the cable before replacing equipment.
A connection back to your router uses one of the eight ports, leaving seven for other wired devices. There isn’t a separate uplink port to keep all eight free.
This switch doesn’t supply Power over Ethernet. PoE cameras and access points will still need their own power supplies or separate injectors.
